Chadwick Boseman Almost Broke Andy Serkis' Ribs While Filming Black Panther

Working on comic book movies might seem like fun but actors are also at risk of getting severely injured on the set. For instance, Andy Serkis has revealed that co-star Chadwick Boseman almost broke his ribs while working on Black Panther.

The Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle director recently spoke about his work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick on PeopleTV'sCouching Surfing. Serkis admitted that he was accidentally battered by Boseman in the Black Panther scene where T'Challa finally catches up with Ulysses Klaue on the streets of Korea.

"This chase ends up with T'Challa, Chad's character… chasing me and catching me. It was a night shoot and the very first take he kneed me so hard in the chest, 'cause he couldn't really see with his mask on. I felt like he had broken my ribs in the very first take."

Although it was revealed that Serkis' ribs were not injured, the former Lord of the Rings actor had to endure 30 more takes of the same scene that night. Nevertheless, he took it like a professional and his effort resulted in a truly satisfying climax to the lengthy night-time car chase.

Ulysses may have survived his encounter with T'Challa but was eventually killed by Erik Killmonger in Black Panther. Unfortunately, this means we won't be seeing Serkis in the MCU unless his character is somehow revisited in future films.

Serkis' next project is the film Flarsky, which premieres on June 7, 2019. Boseman's T'Challa is expected to return in Avengers: Endgame, which is scheduled for release on April 26, 2019.
