We might be getting the Kingdom Come Superman but it looks like we'll also be losing Ray Palmer. It has been confirmed that Brandon Routh is leaving DC's Legends of Tomorrow after the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event next year.

According to Deadline, Routh will be leaving after Legends of Tomorrow Season 5. Courtney Ford, who plays Nora Darhk in the series, has also been confirmed to depart in the upcoming season.

The shows executive producers Phil Klemmer, Grianne Godfree and Keto Shimizu addressed Routh and Ford's exit in a statement.

“Brandon and Courtney have been invaluable members of the Legends family. They have always brought a level passion and collaboration to their characters and to the show — both on and off the screen – that we deeply admire and for which we are eternally grateful,” they said.

Routh confirmed the news in a tweet.

It was previously reported that Routh will pull in double duty by playing Kingdom Come Superman in the Arrowverse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths as well as Ray Palmer. It is yet unclear how Ray and Nora will be written out of the series but the executive producers stated that Routh and Ford could still turn in some guest appearances in the future.

“Of course, when we have had main characters in the past whose journeys take them away from the Waverider, it’s never truly goodbye,” Klemmer, Godfree and Shimizu said. “We love these characters and hope to check in with them in future seasons, to see how life off the ship has transformed them for better or worse.”

It's certainly disappointing to know that both Ray and Nora will be leaving the series. After all, Ray had been one of the first characters to board the Waverider. Nevertheless, it's good to know that they could return in future episodes.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 will premiere on The CW in January 2020.
