There is little doubt that Marvel Studios dominated at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday with its huge announcements about its upcoming projects. However, the most anticipated part of the Hall H panel was for Black Widow, which is set to be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe flick after Avengers: Endgame (and Spider-Man: Far From Home). Not surprisingly, the Scarlett Johansson movie didn't disappoint as new footage was screened and it teased on one of the MCU's biggest mysteries.
The Black Widow SDCC footage is not available online (surprise, surprise) but here's an awesome description of what was shown at SDCC.
The footage opens with a montage of Natasha Romanoff in her other Marvel films as she muses, “I used to have nothing. Then I got this job. This family. I was better because of it. I’ve made mistakes. I can’t go back.”
This is followed by the Marvel logo then a reveal of where the next scene takes place: Budapest. Nat walks into an old building with her gun drawn as a voice behind a door proclaims, "I know you're out there."
"I know you know," Nat answers as she enters. "Do you want to talk like grownups?" When she turns a corner, she finds Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) who also has her gun out.
"Is that what we are?" Yelena asks. The two begin a complicated exchange of guns as they try to take each other's gun before the fight finally begins.
It's a complicated fight that ends with the two choking each other but it quickly moves to a scene where Nat is pouring out some drinks. “Good to see you too, sis,” she tells Yelena. “You just had to come to Budapest, didn’t you?”
This is followed by a montage of action sequences that includes a motorcycle chase, a car crash, and yet another fight with a character that may or may not be Taskmaster.
So yes, it looks like we'll finally find out what happened in Budapest, that place that Nat and Clint Barton just can't stop reminiscing about. It's an exciting idea considering that it could mean that Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye will show up in the movie.
Black Widow is scheduled for release on May 1, 2020.
