Black Widow Movie To Begin Production In Spring, Slated To Be First R-Rated Marvel Studios Film

We might have great news for Natasha Romanoff fans. The highly anticipated Black Widow movie is set to begin production early this year. In addition to that, the Scarlett Johansson flick could be the first R-rated film from Marvel Studios.

According to That Hashtag Show, Black Widow will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film that will premiere in 2020. The movie might already be in pre-production but principal photography is expected to begin in spring this year.

That's not the only good news about Black Widow. Considering its action-packed subject and how Natasha operated before she joined SHIELD, the movie could also be aiming for an R-rating next year.

Although it's unlikely that Marvel Studios would go for an R-rated film featuring a female lead, we're certainly crossing our fingers in hopes that this will happen.

The synopsis for Black Widow reads as follows:

"At birth, the Black Widow (aka Natasha Romanova) is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action movies to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative. The standalone film will find Romanoff living in the United States 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union."

So far, only Johansson has been confirmed to appear in the movie. However, we wouldn't be surprised if Samuel L. Jackson shows up once again in Black Widow.

Johansson will return in Avengers: Endgame, which premieres on April 26. The Black Widow movie is reportedly scheduled for release on May 1, 2020.
