Avengers: Endgame Decided Against Thor And Jane Foster Reunion

We already know that Jane Foster is getting a bigger role in Thor: Love and Thunder but it looks like Jane almost had more screentime in Avengers: Endgame. However, the film's writers decided that a reunion between Jane and Thor probably wouldn't work too well.

In Endgame, Thor and Rocket Raccoon went back to the past and headed for Asgard to take the Aether from Jane. However, the extraction happened offscreen while the Odinson found himself reunited with his mother Frigga, who would be killed shortly after their meeting. Interestingly, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that the reunion was almost between Jane and Thor but decided against it (via We Got This Covered).

"Once we figured out the sort of track we wanted Thor to be on, that he was really going to crumble — as any of us would, probably — that the only person who could put him together [would be Frigga]," Markus said. "We wrote a scene with him and Jane, but Jane isn't the person to put him back together. Odin is not the person to put him back together. Really, it only is his mother."

Once the reunion with Frigga was put in place, it became impossible to still give Thor time to meet with Jane.

"We couldn't have him run, get the stone, then go talk to his mom — it would take a disproportionately amount of time. Plus, we never know how the Aether turns into a stone, no one's ever seen it happen, it just happens," Markus continued.

Perhaps it's better that way considering that the contraption Rocket had with him looked rather uncomfortable. Either way, it all worked out in the end since the scene between Thor and Frigga was one of the most heartwarming sequences in Endgame.

Thor and Jane Foster are set for an awesome reunion in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled for release on November 5, 2021.
