Avatar 2 will Resume Filming in New Zealand Next Week

It looks like Avatar 2 might be the first major film to resume filming this year. Producer Jon Landau has just confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel is set to go back into production next week and even shared an image of what the cast and crew will be working on in New Zealand.

Landau took to his official Instagram account to share an image of the Avatar 2 set. Check it out below.

"Our #Avatar sets are ready — and we couldn't be more excited to be headed back to New Zealand next week. Check out the Matador, a high speed forward command vessel (bottom) and the Picador jetboat (top) — can't wait to share more," Landau wrote.

It looks like director James Cameron made the right choice of choosing to film the Avatar sequels in New Zealand. After all, the country's government has already allowed film and television production to resume since they have developed sufficient safety protocols that will prevent the spread of the coronavirus outbreak. With that in mind, it wouldn't be a surprise if other major productions will follow Cameron's lead.

Avatar 2 will once again star Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Giovani Ribisi. They will be joined by new cast members Kate Winslet, Jemaine Clement, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, David Thewlis, Michelle Yeoh and Vin Diesel. The sequel is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2021.
