Anthony Mackie Races To Leave A Toxic Earth In Netflix's IO Trailer

What would you do if the planet suddenly became too toxic? The new trailer for IO follows Anthony Mackie and Margaret Qualley as they work together to escape Earth before it's too late.

The trailer opens with a chilling message. "In the near future, Earth will become toxic." In an effort to save humanity, people have moved to Jupiter's moon Io. However, one woman chose to stay behind. Sam Walden (Qualley) continues to live on the planet by staying in a spot where there is still fresh air. She regularly transmits a message for other survivors and eventually finds a new companion in Micah (Mackie).

Micah has an amazing revelation: the last shuttle out of Earth is leaving soon and he wants Sam to join him. Although she is initially unconvinced, Sam appears to agree with Micah and so their journey begins. However, getting to the final shuttle will not be easy, as they would need to travel through the toxic zone.

The synopsis for IO reads as follows:

"Sam, one of the last survivors on a post-cataclysmic Earth, is a young scientist dedicated to finding a way for humans to adapt and survive, rather than abandon their world. But with the final shuttle scheduled to leave the planet for a distant colony, her determination to stay is rocked by the arrival of another survivor, Micah. She must decide whether to journey with him to join the rest of humanity and begin life anew or stay to fight for Earth's survival."

The film also stars American Horror Story alum, Danny Huston. IO will premiere on Netflix on January 18.
