Amazon's Wheel of Time Adds Game of Thrones Star as Rand Al'Thor's Father

Amazon's upcoming adaptation of The Wheel of Time has found its Tamlin Al'Thor. Game of Thrones actor Michael McElhatton has just been cast as Rand Al'Thor's adoptive father.

The announcement was made on the official Wheel of Time Twitter account. Check it out below.

It's an interesting casting choice considering that McElhatton is known for playing the villainous Roose Bolton in Game of Thrones. Of course, he's a talented actor who could easily fit into the role of Rand's heroic father. On the other hand, it's kind of difficult to unsee the way he killed Robb Stark in the HBO series.

Luckily, playing Roose isn't the only notable thing that McElhatton has done in his career. He also appeared as a minor villain (not as hateful as Roose, but still) in Justice League and showed up as the prosecutor in HBO's Chernobyl.

The Wheel of Time is based on the books by Robert Jordan which follows Moiraine, a magic-user who searches for The Dragon Reborn, a messianic figure who can stop the evil entity known as the Dark One. Moiraine gathers five young people and must find the hero among them.

The upcoming Amazon series is headlined by Rosamund Pike, who has been cast as Moiraine. She will be joined by Josha Stradowski as Rand, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al'Meara, Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon, and Madeleine Madden as Egwene al'Vere. Daniel Henney has also been cast as Lan Mandragoran.

The Wheel of Time has not yet been given an official premiere date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
