It looks like Paramount Pictures isn't taking any chances with its major blockbusters this year, not with the coronavirus outbreak still being a hot topic. The studio has just decided to push back A Quiet Place 2 and Top Gun: Maverick to a 2021 release.
Paramount has confirmed that A Quiet Place 2 will be moved back to early 2021. Although the movie was originally set to premiere in March, the studio decided to delay its release to September due to COVID-19. Unfortunately, the pandemic is making the reopening of theaters uncertain so Paramount made the decision to push the film back to April 2021.
The sequel to John Krasinski's 2018 thriller isn't the only major film from Paramount that will be delayed. Tom Cruise's Top Gun 2 has also been pushed back from December 23 this year to a later premiere in July 2021.
Paramount executives Chris Aronson and Mark Viane confirmed the decision in a joint statement. "We truly believe that there is no movie-viewing experience like the one enjoyed in theaters," Aronson and Viane said. "We are committed to the theatrical experience and our exhibition partners, and want to stress that we are confident that, when the time comes, audiences everywhere will once again enjoy the singular joy of seeing Paramount films on the big screen."
A Quiet Place 2 is now scheduled to premiere on April 23, 2021. Top Gun: Maverick will hit theaters on July 2, 2021.
