Nikolaj Coster-Waldau: Jamie Lannister Is 'Disgusted' By Cersei

[WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE GAME OF THRONES SEASON 7 FINALE]

Jamie Lannister has been a roller coaster of a character starting out in season one quite despicable and now ending up as one of the most sensible characters in the show. The finale had him abandoning his post by Cersei's side, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau talks about Jamie and his exit from King's Landing.

Talking to IndieWire, Coster-Waldau explains:

"She has so little interest or regard for the rest of humanity. It's all about just her power… He is truly disgusted by the way she acts. At this point, the threat is clearly real. He believes what he sees, he believes his brother, he believes Jon Snow, he believes Daenerys when she says there's an army of 100,000 marching. That is so much bigger than anything they've ever faced… I think that at this point, even the fact that she's pregnant, there are bigger things at stake because it's true what he says,'"No matter what, if the dead wins, there will be no child.' There is no choice."

While it was clear that Cersei is a character often motivated by her own selfish concerns, Jamie Lannister has been known to put the needs of the kingdom before his own loyalty. Though he may have been branded as the ‘Kingslayer,' Jamie murdered the Mad King for the good of the realm.

Though he has been by his sister's side the whole time, Jamie finally going up and leaving has been a huge step forward, and it's possible that we'll see him redeem the Lannister name by keeping to his oath and marching north.

Game of Thrones season 8 returns either 2018 or 2019.
