Wonder Woman 1984 Director Comments on Black Panther's Oscar Nomination

Say what you will about Marvel's Black Panther but the movie has made history by being the first superhero film to get a Best Picture nomination from the Academy Awards. Granted, the movie isn't as good as The Dark Knight, which should have gotten a nomination back then, but there's no point crying over spilled milk. Now that Marvel has a newsworthy Oscar nomination, it has got everyone talking, including Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins.

During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Jenkins stated she was happy that the film was nominated for the prestigious award. The director went on to say that she never got why a film's genre dictated it getting an award or not, so the fact that Black Panther finally broke through that has pleased many.

"I never understood why any type of movie is more likely than another [to be nominated]. This art form has so many people doing great work in all different genres. I think it's great that a superhero film was finally nominated, and I'm particularly happy that it was Black Panther."

Hopefully, this means more superhero movies get the nomination, assuming that they are worth it of course. Not every superhero film deserves a nomination, which is why no one is crying over Avengers: Infinity War only getting a special effects nomination. On the other hand, there are people crying over Suicide Squad somehow winning an Oscar. Sigh.

Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26.
