Weathering With You is Coming to North American Theaters Early Next Year

Makoto Shinkai gained critical acclaim after Your Name and praise towards him continued with the well-received Weathering With You. It did end up showing in several countries but not a lot of people saw it, which is a shame since the movie is very well-made, though not as good as Your Name. Fans in North America who haven't seen it yet are in for some good news; it's going to get a theatrical release on January 2020.

This is very good news since it gives fans another chance to check out and appreciate Shinkai's great movie. The January 2020 release was confirmed by Weathering With You's official site so fans just need to save up and count down the days. Seriously, if you're an anime fan and have not seen this movie yet, you really should since it's worth watching for the animation alone, even if some part of the story is messed up.

Don't worry, we won't spoil it here.

Here's the official synopsis:

The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…

As someone who has seen this movie once and loved, I highly encourage you all to check it out. If you loved Your Name, there's a great chance that this film is up to your alley. If you didn't like Your Name, there are enough differences here to change your mind.

Weathering With You comes to the states in January 2020. Get hyped!
