WarnerMedia Exec Claims HBO Max Will Be Better for Families Than Disney+

Disney+ has been gaining a ton of viewers, mostly due to the fact that The Mandalorian is one of the biggest exclusives for this streaming service. While the service isn't going to be beating Netflix anytime soon when it comes to popularity, there's no doubt that people are going to tune in to see every episode of the first Star Wars live-action show.

However, if there is one glaring weakness for Disney+, it's that the service mostly has shows and movies that are friendly for children. WarnerMedia Executive John Stankey believes that Disney+ is a good product but claims that the upcoming HBO Max will be better for all of the family members, not just for the children.

Variety was able to cover a Q&A during the UBS Global TMT conference in New York. When asked about HBO Max and how it will be competing with Disney+ and Netflix, Stankey had this to say:

"Disney+ is a good product. They've done a nice job. Its strength as a product to satisfy other members of the family - it's not that deep. Max is. One of the main goals of HBO Max is keeping all members of the family engaged. We're making sure that there's a good, stable offering for the late teens and twentysomething [users]."

We can't deny that HBO Max and Netflix have more depth in their shows and movies since that's just how they're wired. While Disney+ will have the occasional mature and gritty show, none of them are ever going to be R-rated, unless there are plans to bring the canceled Netflix shows to the service.

HBO Max launches sometime in May 2020.
