Valve Reveals the First New Half-Life Game in 12 Years

It has been 12 years since Valve released a Half-Life game. Fans have been waiting for a Half-Life 3 or Half-Life 3 Episode 3 but Valve seems to have been content with managing Steam, which is technically the most popular digital game store. After 12 years since the release of Half-Life 2 Episode 2, Valve has finally announced a new Half-Life game but it's not what fans are expecting.

On Twitter, Valve announced Half-Life: Alyx, which the developer stated would be their flagship VR game. That's right, the new Half-Life game fans have been waiting more than a decade for is going to be a VR game. You can imagine the reaction this has been getting from fans who just wanted Half-Life Episode 2 Part 3.

To be fair, there aren't a lot of must-buy VR games right now and if anything is going to get the attention of hardcore gamers, its Half-Life. Focusing on Alyx is also a nice touch since most of the games have focused on mute protagonist Gordon Freeman. Still, the fact that Valve has promised fans a Half-Life 2 Episode 3 and never released it is really annoying. Thanks, Gabe Newell.

Whatever the case. Half-Life: Alyx should be an interesting game and could be what Valve has been working on this whole time. Okay, probably not. Considering how big the name of this franchise is, here's hoping this isn't just a gimmicky game made for VR purposes.

More news on Half-Life: Alyx will be revealed this Thursday.
