Upcoming My Hero Academia Movie Was Originally the Series Finale

My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising will be coming out in Japan this December and fans are pumped to see it, especially after how solid Two Heroes was. One reason fans dug the film was seeing more of All Might's backstory and the fact that series creator Kohei Horikoshi stated that he considered it canon since he wanted to add it to the manga but didn't have space or time.

While Heroes Rising won't have that, it does have one intriguing fact: it was meant to be the series finale.

On Twitter, Horikoshi stated that plot elements used in this movie were originally going to be part of the series finale. Since the series has blown up in popularity it's easy to see why Horikoshi has had to change things up since My Hero Academia probably won't end anytime soon.

Unfortunately, Horikoshi did not reveal any plot elements for the film so we'll have to wait for a trailer or two before we can speculate on anything. The poster shows that Midoriya and Bakugo will likely be the lead characters, just like they are in the series, so we'll probably see them work together and maybe even learn to respect each other.

The latter probably won't happen until near the series' actual end.

My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising comes out in Japan on December 20.
