The Rise of Skywalker Effects Supervisor Hopes a Cut Creature Appears in The Mandalorian

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is that weird breed of movie where it simultaneously had too much going on but not enough space to make it all work. The common consensus seems to be that this movie would have been a lot better if it were two movies, which would have allowed for more character growth. Because of the way it was made, one extraordinary creature was cut from appearing in the movie, with Neal Scanlan, the creature and special makeup effects supervisor, hoping to see it again.

Maybe in The Mandalorian?

During an interview with Collider, Scanlan explained that there was a spider-like creature called Eye of Webbish Bog, which would have guarded the Wayfinder that Kylo Ren was looking for. Once Kylo eliminates the cultists, this mysterious monster claims that Darth Vader trusted the location of the Wayfinder to it and proceeds to tell Ren where the item is placed.

I hope that we can maybe bring that back in some way shape or form on the TV series [The Mandalorian] or that we can revisit that character in some way because it was a haunting image and a very unusual image. But one which I think was incredibly Star Wars. So yeah, somewhere there's footage of that.

Everything about the creature sounds fascinating, from its weird pact with Darth Vader to the symbiotic relationship it has with a blind giant, Eye of Webbish Bog sounds like an amazing character that needs to be seen. Even J.J. Abrams wanted to use it in The Rise of Skywalker before realizing that they could tell the Wayfinder story in one montage.

Will we see it in The Mandalorian? Probably not in season 2 since filming and production for that have already wrapped up but who knows about the next couple of installments?

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be coming to digital stores on March 17 and Blu-Ray on March 31. The Mandalorian can currently be streamed on Disney+ with a second season coming soon.
