The Mandalorian Season 2 is still a way off, currently scheduled for release on Disney+ this October but that hasn’t stopped fans from being excited. When your first season ends with a cliffhanger like Moff Gideon emerging with a Darksaber, you know things are going to ramp up. As we wait for the second season to sweep us off to a galaxy far far away, series actor Giancarlo Esposito revealed what the show has planned for his character.

Speaking with Deadline, Esposito said that The Mandalorian Season 2 will delve into his character’s backstory and even detail The Darksaber’s past. It’s often considered to be an incredibly powerful sith weapon, though one not used by Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine for some reason. Either way, fans have been curious about these two and knowing how they got here is going to be a hot topic for discussion, that’s for sure.

"You'll see more of the Darksaber, you'll get the explanation of this ancient weapon to the modern world, a collapsed world. Where did this saber come from and how was it revived? It's a key in our second season, which will be back sooner than later. (The saber) is a key to Moff Gideon's past, which possibly has a lot to do with where he comes from and his desire to build a planet and bring it back together.”

Anything that has Giancarlo Esposito should be worth talking about, hence why so many have connected with Moff Gideon. He’s a fearsome, charismatic villain and his battles with The Mandalorian (and maybe Ahsoka) should be fun to watch. His past should flesh him out nicely but we aren’t expecting anything too deep. This is Star Wars we’re talking about, after all.

Will The Mandalorian Season 2 actually come out this year? Stay tuned.
