The Latest Pokemon Episode Either Debunks a Theory or Proves Ash Never Loved His Dad

If there's one thing fans have been wondering since the very first episode of Pokemon, it's the location of Ash's dad. The anime's protagonist has been fatherless since day one and we've all been wondering if he will ever appear, assuming he's still alive of course. There are a number of fan theories out there about what happened to Ash's dad, with most people assuming that he just died and won't be mentioned ala Uncle Ben in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Well, the latest episode of Sun and Moon has essentially confirmed that Ash's father isn't dead. That or Ash never really loved him when he was still alive and is therefore unimportant to him. There's a lot to unpack here.

The latest episode has Ash and his friends exploring Poni Island, where they discovered that the locale's guardian has the power to make people see their fallen loved ones. This allows Mallow to see her long lost mother but this doesn't affect Ash one bit, which might confirm that Ash's dad is, indeed, alive. That or Ash never loved him in life or death (that's grim).

Fans can officially cross one theory off of their list about Ash's dad, though more will likely sprout from it. Without any actual proof about the character's father, it seems like the mystery of Ash's lack of a second parent will continue.

Or they'll just reveal that he's adopted. That would be fun.

What starts as a summer vacation in the tropical Alola region turns into the next exciting chapter in Ash Ketchum's quest to become a Pokémon Master! There's plenty for Ash and Pikachu to explore in this sunny new region, with exciting new Pokémon to discover and interesting people to learn from along the way—including the cool Professor Kukui and the fun-loving Samson Oak.
