The Last of Us Part II Gets a Big Update This Week With New Difficulty Level, Trophies, and Graphic Styles

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II may have plenty of great reviews from critics but it had a more mixed reception with fans. Some felt that the story was too long, trying hard to be artsy, and had unlikeable characters while others were just homophobic sexists. Even with all of that, most people would agree that the gameplay itself is pretty solid so if you liked it, this next big update is for you.

The PlayStation Blog revealed that this The Last of Us Part II update would be coming on Aug. 13 and will add a number of new features. Said features include a new difficulty called Grounded that makes the game even harder than before by having enemies do a ton of damage and removing the ability to use enhanced hearing/detective mode.

We're also getting an intriguing permadeath mode where players will have to start from the very beginning if they die once. If that's too much for you, the update will also offer a chance to limit permadeaths to a chapter, so if you die once on Day Two, you will start from the very start of Day Two. Completionists will also get some new trophies for these two modes so that's something.

Finally, we're also getting some really cool graphic enhancement modes where players can change how the game looks. You can make the game look cel-shaded, pixelated, all-red, and other options that we're excited to experiment with. Also, the fact that The Last of Us Part II has cel-shaded modifiers while Marvel's Spider-Man doesn't sure hurts a lot.

The Last of Us Part II is available now, while the update will be coming out this week on Aug. 13.
