The Gambit Movie Could Still Happen, Rumored for Early 2019 Shooting

Channing Tatum's Gambit movie has been one of those productions that define "development hell." The movie has lost numerous directors and is constantly being rewritten, to the point that some fans think it will be canceled once Disney and Marvel decide to introduce mutants to the MCU. In spite of all the trouble it's been through, there are rumors that the project is not only alive but is being planned for an early 2019 shooting.

The GWW claims that Fox is determined to make the movie and are hoping to begin production in early 2019. This is pretty much the same song and dance fans have heard in regards to the movie. It won't hold much credibility unless they hire a director who will actually stay in the project for more than a day, which seems unlikely.

Admittedly, the fact that this film is even rumored to make a comeback is surprising and the source acknowledges this. With Bob Iger stating that Kevin Feige will take over the X-Men's future, the fact that this film could still happen is quite the shocker. At least X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants were announced in advance, with the latter even having a trailer.

Gambit is a pretty popular character in the comics, but it's hard to justify trying to make this film when it's been put on hold so many times. There is still no director assigned as of this writing and Channing Tatum is the only star confirmed thus far. Yes, he is still fairly popular but it will be hard to be positive about this movie unless real progress is made.

We last saw Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which nobody liked. Gambit himself was okay in that movie but that's all you can say. Here is hoping that we see him in the MCU one of these days.
