Suicide Squad Director Debunks Long-Running Rumor About the Film's Script

While Suicide Squad ended up making a lot of money and having a lot of fans back in 2016, there were a lot of weird rumors about the weird things happening behind the scenes. Aside from Jared Leto supposedly giving his castmates weird gifts to "stay in character," there were also reports that director and writer David Ayer only had two weeks to write the script. Had it been true, most of us would have had a lot of sympathy for the director.

As it turns out, that wasn't the case as Ayer has gone to social media and debunked this long-standing rumor. The director bluntly states that this rumor is "garbage," so it's good to know that he wrote that terrible script. Then again, many reports have also stated that Warner Bros did force Ayer to make a number of changes during reshoots so what do we know?

Though Ayer isn't involved with The Suicide Squad, which will be directed by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, he might still be working on the long-delayed Gotham City Sirens. Ayer's work also seems to be respected since numerous references to the 2016 film were made during Birds of Prey. Basically, don't expect The Suicide Squad to erase the original one from history.

If you're curious about the movie, Suicide Squad can still be bought on digital stores and might even be watchable on DC Universe. The Suicide Squad will be coming out in August 2021.
