Suicide Squad Almost Had a Direct Connection to Justice League

While James Gunn's The Suicide Squad could be a huge improvement over the original, there are a lot of people who gravitate towards the 2016 Suicide Squad film from David Ayer. In spite of its flaws, the movie did make a ton of money and the fact that the Rebirth run of Suicide Squad lasted 50 issues is a testament to that film's popularity.

As it turns out, the movie would have had a closer connection to Justice League and it could have made the film more interesting. Would it have become a better movie? Honestly, there's a good chance that the answer is yes.

Discussing the film with a fan who didn't like the climax (to be fair, no one did), Ayer revealed that there were plans to have Enchantress possessed by a mother box from Apokolips. That's right, we would have gotten a more explicit New Gods reference had Ayers gotten his way and it seems like a real shame that Warner Bros. edited his film down a ton.

Unfortunately, Justice League ended up being a waste of time, choosing to give fans a generic "crowd-pleasing" superhero movie instead of continuing Zack Snyder's vision for the DCEU. As someone who doesn't like Snyder's contribution to the DCEU that much, I would have liked to see what he would have done instead of this by-the-numbers movie we ended up getting.

Suicide Squad can currently be purchased on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital means. The Suicide Squad by James Gunn is slated for an August 6, 2021, release.
