Star Wars: Mark Hamill Wants Fans to Campaign For Carrie Fisher’s Posthumous Hollywood Star

The release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi was an emotional one for fans since it seemed like the final time we would be seeing Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, due to her untimely death months prior. With the news that we would be seeing Fisher again in Episode IX via previously unused footage, fans are excited but nervous to see what J.J. Abrams has planned for her final Star Wars film.

With Star Wars: Episode IX coming out next year, Mark Hamill has encouraged fans to let their voices be heard and campaign so that she can be considered for a Hollywood star by the time the next installment in the franchise comes out. Hamill points out that a Hollywood star can only get a Hollywood star posthumously five years after their death but is hoping that the Academy make an exception.

Fisher is going to get a Hollywood star one day, there's no doubt about that. But having her get one just before the film comes out would be a neat touch and would make the film's release feel more important. Only time will tell if Hollywood will listen but it would be awesome to see, just so Fisher can take her place in the stars.

Carrie Fisher has had quite the extensive career outside of Star Wars, though there's no doubt that Princess Leia is her most memorable role. She was an inspiration to people everywhere so most fans would have no problem with her getting a Hollywood star early. There might be some other names that should be there ahead of her though, which could cause a lot of arguments.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
