Star Wars Comic Reveals Leia Organa Was Promoted to General Earlier Than We Thought

Marvel's Star Wars comics have done a good job of characterizing the heroes we know and love, as well as filling in some plot details that could have used more time in the movies. Whether it's the current ongoing series or a limited one, fans have had a great time with the comic book and it's clear that Marvel is taking this franchise very seriously.

Star Wars #55 recently answered a question fans have been wondering: When did Princess Leia Organa become a general of the Resistance? Thanks to this issue we now know when this happened and it was much earlier than any of us expected. Most of us expected the promotion to happen sometime after the events of Return of the Jedi but it actually happened before The Empire Strikes Back.

After a battle that didn't end well, Leia, Luke, and Han are contacted by Mon Mothma. Since their mission was a failure Leia started apologizing but Mothma said there was no time for that and promoted all three, saying that Leia was now a general, Luke will be a commander, and Han is a colonel.

This is pretty surprising since no one called Leia Organa a general until The Force Awakens, where she was much older and more aware of the world around her. Still, it's interesting seeing this happen at the timeline and should satisfy those who were questioning when this happened.

Star Wars #55 is available this week.
