Star Wars Artist Explains Rose Tico's Absence in 'The Rise of Skywalker' Marketing

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has looked promising thus far, though the cynical of us feel that it might be a lot of nostalgia pandering thanks to the return of Palpatine and J.J. Abrams' involvement. One cause of concern - or celebration if you're mean - has been the absence of Rose Tico in the marketing, though actress Kelly-Marie Tran did show up during the film's big reveal so she won't be removed, haters.

That being said, why hasn't Rose Tico appeared in the marketing for The Rise of Skywalker? Well, Star Wars artist Brian Rood went on social media to reveal why Rose hasn't been seen in the marketing material released thus far. Apparently, the artists are waiting for Rose's movie design to be finalized so that they can add her to the material.

When the character didn't appear in the marketing it started the #WheresRose movement on social media. Fans expressed their admiration for the character and used this to wonder why she wasn't being shown. Though there are a number of people who dislike the Rose Tico character - to the point that they harassed her out of social media (proud of yourselves?) - it's good to know that there is a section of fans who appreciated Rose and, to a lesser extent, Kelly-Marie Tran.

It will be interesting to see how The Rise of Skywalker will use Rose since she was in a coma the last time we saw her. Rose also kissed Finn, which might start a love triangle between Rey, Rose, and Finn. Maybe a love quadrangle if you count Poe Dameron and his love for Finn.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out on December 20.
