Spider-Man: Far From Home Set Photos Gives First Look at Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio

Spider-Man: Far From Home has been the subject of various reports and speculation. Aside from being the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, interest in the film was gained when acclaimed actor Jake Gyllenhaal was rumored to be joining the movie as classic Spidey villain Mysterio. While no official confirmation has been given, these new photos from the film's set have seemingly confirmed it.

As can be seen below, Gyllenhaal is wearing green armor and a purple cape, which look eerily like Mysterio's costume. However, we don't see his signature fishbowl-head so Marvel Studios can always spin this into whatever story they want, kind of like what a spider does with some web. Still, it's safe to assume that Gyllenhaal is indeed in the movie.

Just because Mysterio has seemingly been confirmed doesn't mean that he will be the main villain. Marvel has gotten big celebrities for smaller roles before, so it wouldn't be a huge shocker (ha) if Mysterio ends up being a minor villain for Spidey to take on. Then again, the set photos do imply a big battle so he could end up being the big bad.

Far From Home is going to be a fairly interesting entry in the MCU and not just because Gyllenhaal will be appearing in it. The film will take place after the events of Avengers 4, so many are expecting this movie to deal with the fallout, whatever that ends up being. Most of us are expecting a lot of heartbreak and death, but we'll have to wait and see.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is expected to come to theaters on July 5, 2019. Avengers 4 will come out earlier, on May 3, 2019.
