Pokemon Sword and Shield Won't Complete the Full Pokedex and Neither Will Future Games

Depending on what kind of fan you are, Pokemon Sword and Shield are either the worst entries in the series since Ruby and Sapphire or are an interesting direction for the franchise. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the lack of a National Pokedex and the recently leaked Pokedex that made its way online, revealing the starter evolutions and the Pokemon that would be returning from previous generations. Needless to say, there were a lot of disappointed fans.

Well, it looks like those fans are gonna continue being disappointed since an interview Pokemon Producer Junichi Masuda had with Inside Gamer (translated by Nintendo Everything) revealed that there will be no plans to complete the Pokedex in Sword and Shield. As if that wasn't enough of a heartache, Masuda also stated that future Pokemon games won't have a complete Pokedex either so players will need Pokemon Home to transfer them when it comes out.

Here's what Masuda said:

We currently have no plans to make the Pokemon that are missing from the Galar Pokedex available in-game. This is an approach that we want to continue with in future Pokemon games. Up until now it hasn't been possible to encounter every Pokemon in every game, so people had to transfer them from old games to the new game, by using Pokemon Bank for example.

Very little information on the Pokemon Home app has been released but it appears to be the new transfer app players will need to have all of their Pokemon in one game. Right now, it's not yet known if the app will work on 3DS games like Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon but it would be very helpful to those that want their Rowlett on Sword and Shield.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this week, on November 15.
