Pokemon Sword and Shield Reveal Gigantamax Forms for Charizard, Pikachu, and More

Pokemon Sword and Shield are coming to Nintendo Switch next month and fans really want to see more new Pokemon, along with the evolutionary forms of Sobble, Scorbunny, and Grookey. Instead of that, Sword and Shield have decided to show more of the controversial Gigantamax forms of existing Pokemon, which is neat, at the very least. It's a bit annoying how these are replacing Mega Evolutions, at least they're making Pikachu chubby again.

No joke, Pikachu is one of the Pokemon who is getting a Gigantamax form and it makes him look like Gen 1 Pikachu again. He's now a giant chubster and it's the cutest thing I've ever seen, though it's a shame that you'll need some save data from Let's Go! Pikachu to get it. Yeah, this is where things are starting to take a turn.

Guess what? Eevee gets a Gigantamax form too and you need Let's Go! Eevee save data to access it. Joy.

Thankfully, they also show Gigantamax forms of Charizard and Butterfree, who look great and aren't locked behind $60 paywalls. These Pokemon will need to be found in the wild but should be great for these epic battles when they happen. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding Gigantamax and Dynamaxing but we're sure that the games themselves will tell us how they work.

Oh, wait, Meowth with Gigantamax form is early bonus DLC. You'll need to get the game before January 15, 2020, if you want this version of the Pokemon on your team. Back to being irritated. Ugh.

I complain but this is actually common practice for Game Freak and The Pokemon Company. The 3DS games had special pre-order Pokemon as well so this is nothing new. It's just disappointing seeing this happen on newer hardware.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will come to Switch on November 15.
