Pokemon: Sun and Moon Anime Makes Amazing Game Boy Reference

Pokemon: Sun and Moon might just be one of the best versions of this long-running anime. The animation, despite simple character models, is gorgeous, and characters here have more personality than we're used to, which is great. Well, in the most recent episode, the series has once again shown us just how funny and visually appealing it is with a slick Game Boy reference.

During a quick interaction with best-boi Rowlett and Meltan, the leaf-type owl gets an idea and instead of seeing a light bulb, we see a Game Boy turning on. Pretty cool right? Even better is that the Pokemon's eyes turn into the rocket ship we all associate with Game Freak, the team responsible for all of the mainline Pokemon games.

It also makes Rowlett much more likable than it already was, which is saying something since the Pokemon was everyone's favorite when the Sun and Moon starters were first revealed. The series made Rowlett a bit of a sleep-deprived/sleep-addicted little Pokemon, which has resulted in some amazing facial expressions from the Pokemon.

What starts as a summer vacation in the tropical Alola region turns into the next exciting chapter in Ash Ketchum's quest to become a Pokémon Master! There's plenty for Ash and Pikachu to explore in this sunny new region, with exciting new Pokémon to discover and interesting people to learn from along the way—including the cool Professor Kukui and the fun-loving Samson Oak.

Fans who have a 3DS can pick up Pokemon Sun and Moon, as well as Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, right now. Pokemon Sword and Shield come to the Switch later this year.
