Pokemon GO Announces 'Go Battle League' for Early 2020

Pokemon GO is still going strong years after its debut. While the mobile game isn't as popular as it was back in 2016, the game still has a ton of fans and recently made billions of dollars so this isn't the end of Niantic or anything like that. Tons of additions have been added to the game and more is coming as well since Niantic has confirmed that a Pokemon GO League.

Sort of.

Niantic has confirmed that a new feature called the GO Battle League will be coming to the mobile game in early 2020. This will build on the current Pokemon GO PVP battles, adding ranked battles and online matchmaking. It's an in-game feature that fans have wanted for the longest time and should get competitive Pokemon fans into this game again.

Here's a description of the upcoming GO Battle League:

"Like many Pokémon GO features, GO Battle League will encourage players to get out and explore the world with Pokémon. Trainers will be able to walk in order to earn entry into the GO Battle League, then battle opponents from around the globe through an online matching system and rise in the ranks of the league. We hope this feature will make the Pokémon GO battling experience more competitive and accessible to more Trainers."

It's awesome to see the walking mechanic remain relevant for GO Battle League since Niantic could have easily gone with basic online battling for the new game mode. Making players walk around to earn entry is great since it continues the efforts to have gamers go out of their house more, something this writer should probably do more.

Pokemon GO is now available on iOS and Android.
