Pokemon: Detective Pikachu Writers Reveal That The Movie Takes Place in Ash's Universe

You might see people compare Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and Paramount's Sonic but you won't witness anyone taking the side of the latter. Simply put, Detective Pikachu is clearly made by people who LIKE Pokemon and it's a wonderful thing to see, even if the movie itself is just fine if the reviews are anything to go by. That being said, this could be considered the Iron Man in, what appears to be, a video game/anime renaissance for Hollywood adaptations.

However, fans might be shocked to know that the writers consider this movie to be in the same continuity as the current anime? That's right, the writers recently had an interview with ComicBook.com and stated that the film's events take place in a different region in the anime and video games, which is awesome to hear.

"We definitely did do it that way as like, ‘This is like maybe connected to the rest of the Pokemon world.' It's not like we're saying that this is an alternate universe where Pokemon and humans live side by side. This is just a different area in their known world where they decided to do things differently."

Does this mean we will be seeing Ash, Brock, and Misty in the future? That's probably doubtful since Ash is currently in the Alola region having the time of his life, before Game Freak and the Pokemon Company make him do competitive things again when Sword and Shield come out.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is now showing in theaters.
