Nintendo Gives Major Update on Metroid Prime 4, Won't Be Coming Out Anytime Soon

Nintendo just gave fans a major update on Metroid Prime 4 and it's going to disappoint a lot of people. In a video, Shinya Takahashi revealed that Nintendo wasn't satisfied with the game's development and have chosen to restart the project from the ground up. They have also announced that Retro Studios will now be taking over development, though the company will start from the very beginning.

So yeah, that's a lot to take in.

When Nintendo announced Metroid Prime 4 in E3 a few years ago, fans started jumping for joy. Aside from the fantastic 3DS game Metroid: Samus Returns, we haven't had a proper Metroid game in the longest time. The last proper Metroid game on consoles was Metroid: Other M and, well, no one talks about Other M.

Fans are probably heartbroken over the fact that they'll have to wait even longer than they already were. Still, it's nice to know that Nintendo wasn't willing to release a mediocre game, which shows that they still view video games as an art. Hopefully, Retro Studios does a good job with Metroid Prime 4 and we get a worthy follow-up to that amazing series.

The Metroid Prime trilogy is considered by many to be one of the finest gaming trilogies ever made. Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 were Gamecube titles, while Metroid Prime 3 was a Wii game. All three titles were eventually re-released on the Wii as the Metroid Prime Trilogy with minor graphical improvements and Wii Controller support. Here is hoping that this fun trilogy gets a Switch release.

Metroid Prime 4 won't be coming out anytime soon.
