New Trailer for Netflix's Ghost in the Shell Gives Us Another Look at its 3D Animation

When Netflix first revealed their Ghost in the Shell anime, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, fans were pretty appalled by the 3D animation since many of them grew up with the spectacular 2D animation from previous installments. Netflix has released a second trailer but it looks like fans aren't having it, though the animation does actually look pretty decent, though also somewhat similar to Star Wars: Resistance.

Okay, maybe the Resistance comparison isn't called for. The thicker outlines on these characters make the show look like a Nintendo Switch-exclusive game, similar to say Astral Chain or Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It's not a bad style by any means but fans who strictly want 2D animation from their Japanese cartoons are going to be disappointed.

It's a shame that so many fans have already turned on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 since the 3D animation is actually pretty smooth. Japan has actually been using more 3D animation in recent years, with Lupin III: The First and Dragon Quest: Your Story showing that you can still have great facial expressions with this type of animation.

Sure, 2D animation looks better but you can't fault them for trying a different style that doesn't even look that bad. Hopefully, fans can get over this and check the series out. Let's also hope that the actual anime is good since things can always change.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 is coming to Netflix this April.
