New Open-World First-Person Shooter From Tencent Looks a Lot Like Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 may have had another delay but that doesn't mean the hype has diminished, with the most recent Night City Wire event keeping some of that momentum. Unsurprisingly, hot games gain a lot of attention and a lot of other gaming companies want to try their hand with a similar concept, hence this article. Tencent, a notorious gaming company that usually works on mobile games, has announced a cyberpunk-themed open-world first-person shooter called Syn.

Yup, the same company that is working on Pokemon Unite will also make a cyberpunk game that isn't set in the year 2077. That means it's not a ripoff in the slightest.

All cynicism aside, it does seem like Tencent is trying to make this game a bit different from CD Projekt Red's upcoming game, even though the settings are really similar. For one thing, it seems like Syn is going for a more anime-like feel with characters that don't really go for that realistic approach. There are also pets, which we're sure are not in CD Projekt Red's game so that's kind of a plus.

We sure hope that this game is a solid alternative to the title but announcing such a similar game to CD Projekt Red's just feels cheap. Just to be clear, we don't just mean the setting since there are a ton of other cyberpunk games out there but also in terms of gameplay. At least other cyberpunk games aren't first-person shooters that have an open-world.

No release date for Tencent's Syn has been announced. They also made it clear that the gameplay shown off wasn't the finished product. Cyberpunk 2077 will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC this November.
