New Gods Director Gives Us a Barda-riffic Script Update

The upcoming New Gods movie has a lot of DC fans excited since its one of the most fascinating comics ever created and we can all thank Jack Kirby for that. While the movie is still a long way away, it seems to be in good hands since Batman and Mister Miracle writer Tom King is working on the script with director Ava DuVernay.

Recently, a fan asked DuVernay how the script was going, with the director stating that things with King were going smoothly. She did so by making a cute Big Barda reference, saying that "writing with Tom King like Barda in a battle. Strong and fearing no man." While that doesn't answer a lot of our questions, it does let us know that she's a Big Barda fan.

Let's be honest DC fans, if you don't like Big Barda, you don't have a soul (or like comic books).

Barda and Mister Miracle have one of the sweeter relationships in all of comics, being raised in the fires of Apokolips while learning to love one another despite the cruelty they faced. This relationship is one of the focal points in New Gods stories, including the critically acclaimed Mister Miracle maxi-series that was written by, you guessed it, Tom King.

We all have high hopes for this New Gods movie so let's pray to the movie gods that this ends up good. Personally, I would have made this a Disney+ series but if it can tell an awesome tale in 2+ hours, they will have overachieved.

New Gods does not have a release date yet.
