New Birds of Prey Trailer Confirms a Comic-Accurate Mask for Black Mask

When fans first looked at the costumes of the characters from DC's upcoming Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), they were worried. None of the characters resembled their comic book counterparts, at least visually, and Ewan McGregor's Black Mask didn't have a, well, black mask. Thankfully, it seems that DC and Warner Bros. are fixing that error since fans who attended CCXP confirmed that we're getting a comic-accurate black mask for, ugh, Black Mask.

This is actually kind of surprising since most of us had assumed that Harley would mess up the face of Roman Sionis, which would force him to put on the black mask and become the Batman villain we all know and tolerate. However, if they are willing to show the supposed mask in this trailer, which could get re-released in the near future.

Sionis has had a history with the Birds of Prey in the DC comic books, being a Gotham gangster and all that. He hasn't had any significant encounters with Harley yet but that could always change with the movie coming out. Comic book companies do love their corporate synergy by releasing comics that are eerily similar to shows and movies for no particular reason.

How this is incorporated in the movie should be interesting since it will take liberty with the source material, just like every other comic book film out there. Here's hoping that the film is great and they will make us want to see Harley and her friends beat the crap out of Black Mask.

Birds of Prey comes out on February 7, 2020.
