Mike Mignola Shares First Ever Drawing of Hellboy

Hellboy continues to be one of the most popular comic book characters not under Marvel or DC. Created by acclaimed artist Mike Mignola, the character has appeared in hundreds of comics and is getting another chance at the big screen with the upcoming 2019 reboot starring David Harbour. With the film coming out next year and numerous collections of the comic set for release to capitalize on the buzz, it looks like Mignola started feeling nostalgic as he shared his first ever drawing of his most famous creation.

Mignola shared the image on Twitter and it looks much different from the design fans have been used to. This version of the character looks much more vicious and unhinged, with some spit falling down his mouth and a pet vulture for unknown reasons. It's still a great drawing since it came from Mike Mignola, though in hindsight the design is more in line with what Hellboy fights instead of what he is.

While the design is cool, the one we now know is much more iconic and unique. The fact that he's also a cigar smoking BPRD officer who saves the world on a regular basis is icing on the cake.

Hellboy will hit theaters on January 11, 2019.
