Melissa McCarthy Joins DC's The Kitchen

New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment are finalizing the deal with popular comedian Melissa McCarthy to star in the film adaptation of Vertigo's The Kitchen. If the deal pulls through, McCarthy will join actress Tiffany Haddish as one of the film's leads in this gritty crime drama.

According to Deadline, the film is a first in a lot of ways, being directed by female director Andrea Berloff and starring three women in an anti-hero role for a mafia film. McCarthy and Haddish are two of the three leads if this deal pushes through, with the third lead in need of casting.

Based on the Vertigo comic book from Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle, the series focuses on mob wives who have to take over their husband's business. They do so in a way that's more vicious than their husbands, which means that the film might not be for the faint of heart.

McCarthy hasn't starred in a lot of comic book films but has shown off her acting prowess in Spy and Bridesmaids, though those were comedies. The film will be a drama, so it will be interesting to see how she does.

The Kitchen currently doesn't have a release date but this could be one of the more interesting films to come from DC.
