Marvel’s upcoming Savage Avengers comic is looking to be the company’s coolest-looking comic since it has some of the publisher’s grittiest characters teaming up. Venom, Wolverine, Elektra, Doctor Voodoo, Conan the Barbarian, and The Punisher in one team is every 12-year-old’s dream come true and it will be fun seeing them kick ninja butt in comic book form.

Well, if you’re hesitant to pick up Savage Avengers #1 on May 1, you can wait for Free Comic Book Day where Marvel will release FCBD Avengers #1, which will have a 10-page story dedicated to the group. It looks like this is set before the events of the first issue, so fans may consider the free issue essential reading if they plan on picking up this series.

It’s also worth noting that this will be Mike Deodato Jr’s final work with Marvel for a while, so fans may want to treasure his last arc. The artist has been working with Marvel for more than a decade and it will be interesting to see what Deodato has planned for his future.

The most savage, most unkillable team of characters in the Marvel Universe is assembled! Wolverine! Venom! Elektra! Punisher! And in their midst - Conan the Barbarian! Conan has returned to the Marvel Universe and his new adventures begin here. What is the City of Sickles? Who is the Marrow God? How is the Hand involved? The roughest and most dangerous characters rumble through this new title starting with...Conan vs. Wolverine? 'Nuff said.

FCBD Avengers #1 comes out on May 4. Savage Avengers #1 comes out on May 1.
