Marvel's House of X and Powers of X Will Kick-Off Big X-Men Relaunch

Jonathan Hickman is about to start a new age of X-Men comics, with his upcoming Powers of X and House of X mini-series. As many expected, this is going to lead to a new ongoing series from Hickman himself but many didn't realize that Marvel would cancel the current X-Men line and restart it with a number of new titles and creative teams.

Hickman revealed these details during an extensive interview with ComicBook.com, where a lot of his plans were discussed. Apparently, this is being done to make the X-Men line much more accessible to those interested in Hickman's upcoming story. The fact that there will also be more stories from different creative teams should also be a blast, though fans will probably miss titles like Mr. and Mrs. X.

So I argued for cancelling the entire line: Why it would work, why it was a good idea, and most importantly, why it was what we needed to do narratively to return the X-Men to their rightful prominent position in the Marvel Universe.
We needed to sell the idea that this is what we're going to be doing for the next few years. So if you want to read X-Men books during the run from late-July through September, House of X and Powers of X are the only new X-books available and everything that's going to follow is based on them. We wanted to be clear to the fans, to the stores, and just as importantly, to the creators who are going to be staffing these books in the future. We wanted the message to be very clear: This is a whole new era for the X-Men. This is what we're doing now.
And so, POX and HOX is how we're starting. It's a solid plan, I think.

This will probably result in fans having mixed feelings since the current Uncanny X-Men run does have its fans, despite some controversy. There's also the current Age of X-Man event, which actually has some solid reviews and is considered pretty good, though this has always had a limit.

Anyone who has read Hickman's Fantastic Four or Avengers run knows that the writer can shake the foundation of whatever he's working on. Many have felt that the X-Men need a major revamp and this could be it.

House of X and Powers of X launch this July.
