Marvel's Avengers: Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics Will NOT Change Controversial Character Designs

Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers - that isn't a fun title to say - went from being one of the most hyped up games of E3 to a title that has received a lot of mixed reactions. It seems like the first major video game to carry that impressive Avengers name received some backlash for its odd character designs, which have been criticized by a lot of viewers.

Crystal Dynamics creative director Shaun Escayg told IGN that the developers appreciate the concern fans have but they are not going to change the character designs. They do welcome the feedback but fans hoping for a Sonic the Hedgehog-style change are in for a disappointment. Hopefully, the main gameplay ends up being fun and people forget about the odd-looking suits that these iconic characters are wearing.

One easy solution to this would be giving each character an alternate costume, particularly from the comic books. Those tend to be fan-favorites so adding something like Oliver Coipel's great Thor redesign or Jack Kirby's iconic Captain America costume would solve a lot of problems. It would also be great if they were free but considering how this will be an odd service-style game that will get a lot of free updates, that might not be the case.

Marvel's Avengers, published by Square Enix and developed by Crystal Dynamics, will be coming out on May 15, 2020, on PS4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Google Stadia. If you have a Nintendo Switch, you can look forward to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 next month, on July 19.
