Marvel Studios Hires Chloe Zhao to Direct The Eternals

Marvel's The Eternals is one step closer to becoming a reality, as the studio has hired a director for the ambitious project. The Hollywood Reporterhas confirmed that Chloe Zhao will be the woman behind the camera for this project, which is great news for those that feel we need more diversity in our movies.

According to the source, Zhao is mostly known for indie festival movies like The Rider and Songs That My Brother Taught Me. She's a darling in thee festivals, so it's easy to see why Marvel would be interested in hiring her for this role. Marvel would rather "make" lesser known directors than hire the big names, but they do give them exposure so that's far from a bad gig.

Zhao was also on the shortlist for Marvel's Black Widow project, but that role ended up going to Cate Shortland. Still, it's good to know that Marvel Studios recognized her talent and want to use her in another movie. The Eternals almost have nothing in common with Black Widow, but it should be one of the more fascinating films from Marvel, that's for sure.

The Eternals were created by comic book legend Jack Kirby, who co-created a number of iconic characters with Stan Lee. These characters are far from the usual relatable characters Marvel likes to advertise since they are literal Gods and/or aliens. It will be interesting to see who gets cast for this project.

One of the more well-known Eternals stories was written by legendary author Neil Gaiman. In this story, the characters lost their memories but are slowly getting them back, along with their powers. It was drawn by John Romita Jr. and should be easy to find in most comic book stores and/or bookstores.

As of this writing, The Eternals does not have a release date. Expect a ton of graphic novels featuring these characters to come out as a way to advertise them.
