Marvel Reveals Why Venom's Saliva is Sometimes Green and it's Disgusting

Donny Cates has been going deep into the symbiote lore with his current Venom run, not only exploring the origins of its race but also making Eddie Brock question what he's gotten himself into. This week's Venom #7 continues that trend, as Ultimate Reed Richards, now calling himself The Maker has revealed something particularly nasty about the symbiote.

Fans of Venom comics know that the artists sometimes like making his saliva green, which not only looks cool but makes the character more monstrous. It will be interesting to see how these artists will react to the fact that the green saliva of a symbiote is actually its excrement, for better or worse.

Yup, Venom's waste doesn't come from its bottom parts; it comes from the mouth. Gross.

Considering how the green saliva depends on the artist, it was actually somewhat inspired to make this revelation. This will probably make artists think twice about coloring it green, though the fact that it now has a story purpose does make it more fun. You have to give Cates points for actually wanting to explore the symbiote and not just making it do cool things like most writers in the 90's.

Big things are happening for Venom right now, with Cates recently teasing a new event that will focus on the character. That event will be teased in next week's Venom Annual #1, so avid readers may want to check that out.

Venom #7 is available now.
