Margot Robbie on How Birds of Prey is Connected to Suicide Squad

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is one of the big DC films coming out next year and fans are pretty pumped to see how it continues Harley's story from Suicide Squad. While the film won't have any overt references to the anti-hero flick, the themes of Harley's character development will directly follow it as Birds of Prey is about how Harley deals with the fact that she's out of an abusive relationship.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie was asked about the Suicide Squad connection. Robbie said that it will be about Harley moving on from her co-dependence and how the character adjusts to her new relationships with Black Canary, Huntress, and Cassandra Cain. There's a lot to explore with Harley's character and since she's going to be an unreliable narrator, it should make the movie an interesting and ambiguous tale.

"I think something I explored a lot in Suicide Squad, the first film, was Harley's co-dependence with the Joker. And obviously, he has a huge influence on her. But, obviously, she was very much in a relationship with him when we first saw Harley onscreen in Suicide Squad. And I did want to explore what is the version of Harley out of a relationship, and whether she's out of a relationship on her own accord or he's kind of kicked her to the curb. But it still affects her, but in a very different way. And I thought we'd see a very different facet of her personalities. Personalities, I would say. Because I think she has multiple."

Knowing that we could have an unreliable narrator with multiple personalities sure makes the Birds of Prey movie sound more interesting. While fans are complaining about the lack of comic book-accurate costumes, there's no doubt that the art design, colors, and the premise has a lot of people interested. Plus, when was the last time you saw an all-female superhero movie?

Birds of Prey will be coming out on February 7, 2020.
