Joker Movie: First Look at Joaquin Phoenix With Makeup

After months of waiting, we now know what Joaquin Phoenix will look like for the upcoming Joker movie. It's not the Joker makeup we're used to, but it is a style we aren't used to and fans should respond in an interesting manner. We aren't getting a typical Batman movie, so seeing a different look for the iconic villain was probably the way to go.

Director Todd Phillips and Warner Bros. have shared this post on Twitter, so fans can see how he looks like below. Having Phoenix stand while footage spins around him was neat and the eventual reveal was probably meant to be goosebump-inducing. This is a very different look for the character but it could be one that fans gravitate to, depending on the film's quality of course.

Phoenix does look rather creepy and his skinnier stature helps with that for some reason. It's also a huge step up from the Jared Leto version that we saw in Suicide Squad, so that is great. The character's look might not match anything we've seen in the comics, but it does do a good job. It seems like they really want him to be more clown-like and they nailed this look.

We know that this movie is going to be more like a gangster film than a straight-up comic book adaptation, which should make it feel a bit fresh when compared to other movies of the genre. Whether Batman also appears isn't known yet, though Thomas Wayne has been cast so this could be a prequel to some sort of Batman story.

Joker is expected to debut in theaters on October 4, 2019. Upcoming DC Extended Universe films include Aquaman on December 21st, Shazam on April 5, 2019, and Wonder Woman 2 on November 1, 2019. What happens after these movies aren't known yet.
