Joker Director Debunks Rumors About Leonardo DiCaprio Being Considered for the Role

Todd Phillips' Joker movie is looking to be a masterpiece, with many critics praising the film. This is the reaction Warner Bros and DC have wanted for their movies and though it hasn't worked for their DCEU films, we're happy to see a risky project like this get praised. With the movie scheduled to release in a couple of weeks, reporters are asking juicy questions for even juicier answers.

When Phillips was asked about the rumors regarding Leonardo DiCaprio starring in the Joker movie by The New York Times, he was adamant about the film being written for lead actor Joaquin Phoenix. Phillips the documented how difficult it was to cast the actor, who never really said "yes" to the role and kept asking a lot of questions.

"I kept waiting for him to just say, ‘O.K., I'm in,' And he never did that. You just never get a yes. All you get is more questions."

Phoenix is a great actor and we can see why they would write this movie around him since he has always dedicated himself to these roles. The fact that he lost so much weight and watched some creepy stuff to get ready for the role shows how passionate he is about acting, so let's hope for more movies like this.

Joker hasn't come out yet but it's hard not to get excited for this interpretation of the character. While it does look a bit Oscar-bait to me, there's no doubt that some passion was put into this and it will be the vision of artists instead of a corporate shill.

Fans will be able to watch Joker on October 4.
