Jason Momoa Says Aquaman 2 Will be 'Much Bigger' Than the Original

Now that Aquaman has proven to be a success, DC fans are curious about the upcoming Aquaman 2. We know that Jason Momoa and Amber Heard will be returning to their roles as Aquaman and Mera respectively, with Black Manta looking to be the main villain next time. The basic answer for how the sequel will be better is that it's going to be bigger, at least according to lead star Jason Momoa.

Speaking with ET, Momoa gave a basic statement about the movie being bigger and better, claiming "There's a lot more in store on so many more levels. There's going to be a lot. It's way bigger!" which is a basic way to hype up your sequel but is far from a bad thing. We would like to see more of Atlantis explored but we'll have to wait and see.

One thing we're worried about is the focus on Black Manta, who came off as unsympathetic during the first movie. You didn't care about his dad dying, the character was far from relatable, and he just came across as kill-obsessed. If they have him kill Aquaman's son as he did in the comics, it will feel unearned and not in tone with the previous DCEU films.

It will be interesting to see how the sequel improves on Aquaman. Let's be honest, the writing of Aquaman 2 was pretty bad but it did have some nice visuals and a couple of neat battles. Here is hoping for better fights and improved writing, among other things.

Aquaman 2 comes out on December 16, 2022.
