January's Suicide Squad #50 is the Series Finale

DC's Suicide Squad comic has been solid enough for most of its run, thanks to the writing talents of Rob Williams and all the talented artists he has worked with. Most fans would say that the comic is much better than the movie that came out, which isn't saying much but does show some quality. This is why some fans will be surprised to know that January's issue #50 will be the series' last.

The solicitations for DC's January 2019 releases confirmed that Suicide Squad #50 will be the final issue of the series, which is fairly surprising. When you consider that James Gunn is now penning the script for a sequel, this makes the comic's sudden end even more surprising. There is always the possibility of it being relaunched with a new creative team but we'll have to wait and see.

Williams' run with these characters was pretty memorable, as Harley, Boomerang, Deadshot, and so much more took on General Zod, the Justice League, and most recently, Aquaman. It's clear that these characters have stuck with the DC faithful so a relaunch with the group is an inevitability.

Here is the solicitation for the final issue (via Newsarama), which sounds like an action-packed issue for those that are picking it up:

Suicide Squad was a part of the initial Rebirth initiative and was given a lot of attention thanks to Jim Lee penciling the first arc. It was treated like a blockbuster title throughout its existence, often having crossovers with other big titles like Justice League. The comic will definitely be missed by fans.
