January's Guardians of the Galaxy Won't Have Drax, Gamora, or Rocket

It looks like Marvel decided to add a little twist to their Guardians of the Galaxy reveal. The teasers had been teasing a massive new team filled with powerful characters but now that these silhouettes have been revealed, they reveal a new twist; only six of these characters will be a part of January's comic book.

What's really shocking about this is the fact that Drax, Gamora, and Rocket Raccoon will not be a part of this new iteration of the group. Star-Lord is front and center in the image, while Groot is all the way in the back so it seems like these two will be the only MCU representatives. Good thing that the other characters are fan-favorites then.

Gamora has been playing a somewhat antagonistic role in Infinity Wars, so it makes sense that she wouldn't be a part of this new group. Why Drax and Rocket aren't included makes their fate more mysterious, though there's a good chance that Rocket will be appearing in an upcoming Avengers event.

Judging from this image alone, it looks like Drax and Gamora are going to be ones getting killed in Infinity Wars. Granted, the solicitations claimed that only one Guardian will die in Infinity Wars, so it's time to place your bets.

Aside from Star-Lord and Groot, Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock round out the silhouettes. They join Cosmic Ghost Rider, Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, Moondragon, Nova, Darkhawk, and Phyla-Vell as characters who could be a part of this new team. It is odd that Marvel would tease all of these characters being a part of the group, only to reveal that the series will only have six of them but it definitely got everyone's attention.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 comes out in January.
