James Gunn on The Suicide Squad Being a Sequel or Reboot

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad has a lot of fans pumped up, thanks to the director's success with Guardians of the Galaxy. While the first Suicide Squad has a lot of fans, many have felt that it's not really a quality film but more of a guilty pleasure that people don't mind indulging in. That being said, there is some confusion on this new movie being a sequel or reboot.

Unfortunately, we haven't been given much of an answer on that regard and Gunn isn't spilling the beans either. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Gunn didn't give a straight answer, saying "These terms are all so narrow, there's so many terms. It is what it is, you'll see in two years."

Obviously, fans won't be pleased with this answer, though the movie's producer did claim that this would be a reboot. Many of us are assuming that it will be a soft reboot, which won't mention the previous movies but will not be erase everything that has happened before. We'll have to wait and see but let's just hope that the movie is of quality.

The Suicide Squad is expected to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Gunn will also be directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is expected to start production in 2020, making him the first director to work on back-to-back comic book movies from different companies. Funny how life works.
